Worked Example: Bakkerij de Molen

How a fictional Amsterdam bakery improved their AI search visibility

The Business

Bakkerij de Molen is a traditional Dutch bakery in Amsterdam-West, known for their sourdough bread and stroopwafels. They had a basic website but noticed they weren't appearing when people asked AI assistants "Where can I get fresh bread in Amsterdam West?"

Initial GEO Score: 28/100

⚠ FINDINGS

Ambiguous Business Identity
AI engines cannot clearly identify what this business does. The website title was just "De Molen" with no indication it was a bakery.
No Structured Data
No schema.org markup detected. AI engines had to guess that this was a LocalBusiness, a Bakery, and where it was located.
Missing Local Signals
No clear address, opening hours, or neighbourhood information on the homepage. The contact page existed but wasn't linked to structured data.

What We Changed

1. Added Schema.org Markup

We implemented LocalBusiness and Bakery schema with complete NAP (Name, Address, Phone) data, opening hours, accepted payment methods, and product highlights. This gives AI engines explicit facts rather than forcing them to infer.

2. Created an llms.txt File

We added an llms.txt file to the root of their website — a machine-readable summary specifically for AI crawlers. It clearly states what the business is, what they're known for, and how to represent them accurately.

3. Restructured Homepage Content

The homepage now leads with "Artisan Bakery in Amsterdam-West" rather than just the business name. Key facts (address, hours, specialties) appear above the fold in clean, extractable text — not buried in images.

4. Added FAQ Content

We added a FAQ section answering common questions: "Do you make gluten-free bread?", "Can I order a custom cake?", "What time do you open on weekends?" — all marked up with FAQPage schema. AI assistants love sourcing FAQ content.
